The price of oil has many factors influencing it beyond the obvious price and demand balance in a free market.
Clean-tech gets more and more appealing because we reached peak oil production recently and the commodity price of oil has become increasingly politicized. The people that sell oil to the West have an abiding hatred for our way of life. The West has colonized most of the world at one time or another, in the process making millions of enemies with diferent political systems and religions.
Oil is truly dirty to use. Not to mention the ecological damage wrought by the industry in places like Alberta's tar sands in extracting oil.
Solar and other green technologies provide a rational approach to environmental degradation and Global Warming which are among the problems inherent in the use of fossil fuels.
