By adding Pearson as an investor in the unit along with Microsoft, and with Barnes & Noble’s own stock-holder Liberty Media, the Nook is putting together an “online-education dream team,” the analysts said in a note today.
Janney said it “always believed” that Microsoft hoped to make the Nook into an opportunity in education and now amid the investment from Pearson — an education-book giant — it’s more clear Nook wants to transform how “education is administered” globally.
Recall that Steve Jobs desired to make Apple’s iPad a disruptive tool for education too, but had not been able to land a deal with text book publishers to his liking. Well, Barnes & Noble and Microsoft now have Pearson, on their side.
