Renata Shamrakova, 28, who pleaded guilty this March to stealing nearly $1 million from Nicky Hilton's ex-husband, says since she created the "Restitution for Renata" page on GoFundMe.com, goodwill messages are flooding in -- and the other nasty comments are getting the delete treatment.
The sexy Ukrainian thief who launched a Kickstarter-style campaign to pay off her $821,000 restitution is getting plenty of attention - but not much money.
Renata Shamrakova, 28, who pleaded guilty this March to stealing nearly $1 million from Nicky Hilton's ex-husband, says goodwill messages are flooding in - and the other nasty comments are getting the delete treatment.
The raven-haired beauty created the "Restitution for Renata" page on GoFundMe.com because she's terrified of going to prison for one to three years, the Daily News first revealed.
Her total take so far: just $175, from three different donors.
"I would like to help," a male supporter wrote on Shamrakova's Facebook page Wednesday. "I'm going to spread the word ... In the meantime I wanted to ask you ... Are you single? Because you are very beautiful and I would love to take you out sometime."
The note meant a lot to Shamrakova, she told The News.
"I wrote back, 'I'm flattered, but I'm not single,'" she said.
There was also negative feedback Wednesday.
"It's hard for me to put myself in your shoes since I am not a thief," someone commented on the Restitution for Renata page under the name Peggy LaRue. "Don't worry I don't think you'll have much luck fleecing others. Find yourself a sugar daddy."
The comment, along with others posted earlier in the day, was quickly deleted from the page.
Shamrakova - who copped to grand larceny and evidence tampering after using hedge fund prince Todd Meister's credit cards to buy clothes, furniture, international trips and jewelry -admits she has a long, way to go before she hits her fundraising goal.
"I'm not disappointed because I didn't expect to get a lot of donations right away," she said. "I did hope it would get a lot of views."
The problem, one crowdfunding entrepreneur said, is that Shamrakova is an unsympathetic figure.
George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watchman who fatally shot Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, was able to crowdfund his legal defense despite plenty of haters because there were still many Americans who felt bad for him, said Kendall Almerico, CEO of the ClickStartMe website.
"This is a crazy project that will never work," Almerico said of Restitution for Renata, noting that Shamrakova offers donors nothing in return for their cash.
"If you have a product that people like, if you have something that captures the passion of people, then it works. Crowdfunding is like magic if you have those things. But if you have a bad idea, if you're a criminal and you're trying to raise money, who's going to send you money? Nobody."
Shamrakova could have at least offered to have coffee with donors, Almerico suggested.
She told The News she would be willing to work for donations, but would only consider "appropriate" offers.
